Cornish Tartan House Collar

Our Cornish Tartan House Collar is the National Tartan of Cornwall and was designed by the poet E. E Morton in 1963. This tartan weave suits hounds that have a sunny, earthy personality and who feel colour is a real statement. It’s also an ideal choice for dog owners who want to share their affinity with Cornwall.

Every colour within the Cornish tartan weave has a special meaning. The white cross on the black background represents the banner of St Piran (the patron saint of tinners). Black and gold represent the ancient kings of Dumnonia, the red for the beak and legs of the chough (Cornish National bird) and azure blue for the Cornish coast.

To add a touch of softness and luxury, we line this Cornish house collar with your choice of olive green or black Swiss velvet. You can also choose to finish it with solid brass or silver nickel plated hardware. Solid brass gives you a traditional look whereas silver plated nickel has a more edgy urban, contemporary feel.

Caring for your tartan collar (and dress lead)

Do not allow your collar to become too dirty. Spot clean or gentle hand wash, allow to air dry on a flat surface. Remember out tartan products are made from 100% wool and should be washed carefully.
